The University of Bradford is situated in one of the most vibrant, diverse cities in the UK. With university buildings and accommodation located across two separate campuses at City and Emm Lane, there is a real sense of community where students come together to share an exciting mix of social, cultural and educational backgrounds. In the heart of the city, buildings old and new give way to plenty of green spaces, canals and waterways creating a pleasant, laid back atmosphere and offering some of the best in Yorkshire shopping, dining and culture. The centre of Bradford is only a short distance from the Peak District, the Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales including the model village of Saltaire and Haworth, the family home of the Bronte sisters.
CIty Campus is located in the heart of Bradford with all the conveniences of a city centre location. All university buildings are designed to combine study spaces with places to meet up with friends and relax. Choose from quiet individual study spaces, bookable group study rooms, or open areas with sofas for more informal study and discussion sessions. From coffee pods and sandwich kiosks to restaurants and diners, there is somewhere for breakfast and dinner and everything in between. To maintain a healthy balance, students have access to the impressive Fitness and Lifestyle sports centre with gym, pool and fitness suite. Student Central is home to Bradford’s Students’ Union and houses a range of student services as well as bars, a cinema, radio station and nightclub.
Just two miles from the city centre is the Emm Lane campus housing the faculties of Management and Law. Emm Lane is set in acres of leafy parkland, where historical buildings blend with modern state of the art architecture. The campus houses a number of student support services as well as plenty of places to eat, drink and relax. A regular bus service runs between the two campuses daily.
The cost of living for students in Bradford is relatively cheap and there is plenty to see and do without causing too much stress to the student finances. There are over 40 public parks and green spaces across the city, as well as free to enter museums and a regular programme of events and festivals including Bradford Festival, Bradford Pride, and the not to be missed annual Curry Festival. Bradford is known as the Curry Capital of Britain and with over 200 restaurants from informal cafe style to high end dining, there is sure to be something to suit every taste and budget. For nights out, students either head for the lively bars and glitzy cocktail culture of West End, or for a more laid back vibe, the destination is North Parade with its smaller, independent bars, eateries and shops. With live music, entertainment and regular events, the bars on campus offer enough variety and atmosphere for a great night out with friends without putting too much of a strain on the student budget.
Students can choose to live on campus or in private rented accommodation. On campus accommodation is based around the award winning The Green complex. This student village is a close knit eco friendly community, offering a range of room styles with modern facilities including shared or private on-suite shower room, free wifi throughout, as well as cleaning services and an onsite launderette. Many students choose to live off campus after their first year, and Bradford has a good range of private rented accommodation located a short distance from university buildings and with weekly rents often lower than the national average. The University works closely with Unipol Student Homes, a private accommodation service offered free of charge to students needing advice and assistance with locating property and dealing with landlords and tenancies. There are increasing numbers of private halls of residence available in the city centre, near to the university, offering modern, purpose built accommodation. These apartments with private rooms and communal areas offer the convenience of a city centre location, but are often more expensive than university accommodation or traditional house shares.
