The University is ranked amongst the top 100 in the world, and is organised around a system of 15 colleges, creating a network of supportive communities, particularly important for young people leaving home for the first time. The University consists of two campuses, the main Durham City Campus and Queen's Campus at Teeside. Queen's is a modern facility with a stunning waterfront location, linked to the main city campus by free shuttle bus. Durham City Campus is located in the heart of the city and college buildings are set within green, leafy grounds and along the riverbank, providing lots of opportunities for outdoor sports and leisure. The colleges organise social events, advise on accommodation and provide practical and pastoral support to students throughout their studies. All of the colleges and halls of residence at City Campus, as well as the most popular rental areas, are withing easy walking distance or a short bus ride into the centre of Durham.
